- ┌ PRELIMINARIES ───────────────────────────────────────────────┐
- └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
- You use this software entirely at your own risk. The author
- and/or distributors are not responsible for any loss or damage
- as a result of using this product and will take no
- responsibility, consequential or otherwise for use, abuse or
- misuse.
-
-
- ┌ VERSIONS ────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
- └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
- uuLogin is offered in two flavours: the shareware version,
- and the registered version. The latter contains all of the
- features documented in this manual, whereas the former may lack
- several of these features. Wherever possible this is highlighted
- in the manual. If you use the shareware version, please read the
- accompanying notes which detail fully the differences between
- it and the registered release. The presence of the registration
- number unlocks the shareware version, making the program run as
- the registered version.
-
- The author would have liked to release the full-featured version
- as shareware, but realizes though that providing no incentive
- to register almost guarantees that there will be a very low
- number of registration. If you possess the shareware version and
- you use this product regularly and wish to continue using it,
- then please support the shareware concept and reward his effort.
- The further development of this product, including several
- significant enhancements and the release of other shareware
- products is dependant on the number of registrations received!
- Feel free to pass on a copy of the shareware version to your
- friends, or upload it in its original form to any public access
- bulletin board system.
-
- If the version you possess is the registered one, then you are
- expressly forbidden from copying it and distributing it to
- others in any form. Your license is to use this software at one
- location. Your registered key number may not be given in any
- form to any other person!

- ┌ ABOUT UULOGIN ───────────────────────────────────────────────┐
- └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
- uuLogin is a utility that allows a system operator using any of
- the popular frontend fido-style mailers to accept incoming uucp
- calls from remote systems. This program has been tested with the
- following mailers: InterMail, dBridge, and FrontDoor. Any mailer
- that allows you to define an external mail call handler should
- work fine with uuLogin.
-
- Feature highlights:
-
- o Up to 100 remote systems may be defined. (more can
- be added in the future if needed).
-
- o FAST execution! Especially important for those who
- call your system long distance.
-
- o Account expirations enforced. (registered feature)
-
- o Detailed logging of activities.
-
- o EASY setup with the included uuSetup.Exe program!
-
- o Onscreen call statistics using uuSetup.Exe.
-
- o Easy system maintenance using uuSetup.Exe.

- ┌ SETUP & INSTALLATION ────────────────────────────────────────┐
- └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
- The program requires a 100% IBM PC compatible computer system
- running MS-DOS version 3.1 or later. It is not compatible with
- any earlier release of MS-DOS. It requires approximately 100K
- memory to operate, but more memory will increase performance.
- When running external programs from within uuLogin, swapping
- of the program memory image to XMS, EMS or disk results
- in less than 2K of memory being consumed by uuLogin while the
- program is running. Since XMS and EMS access are significantly
- faster than disk, the presence of either of these types of
- memory will enhance performance.
-
- uuLogin also runs on almost any type of MSDOS compatible local
- area network and specifically supports most popular types,
- provided that DOS SHARE.EXE is loaded prior to running.
-
- To begin, unarchive all files in this package to a directory on
- your hard drive. Create a subdirectory off of this directory for
- uuLogin's data files called users.
-
- Run the program uuSetup to create the node control files. This
- program is fully menu driven with command help displayed on the
- bottom status line for all menu options and data entry fields.
-
- Make sure that the directory for your uucico program is in your
- DOS path. Also make sure that you have the environment variable
- for your fx-uucico or waffle's uucico set. See the docs for your
- uucico program for more details. uuLogin will shell out and then
- execute uucico with command line parameters telling it who is
- online.
-
- In uuSetup, configure the remote system's information for all of
- the systems that will be calling your system. See the status
- line at the bottom of the screen for help in all of these fields.
- You will also need to set the permits for each remote system in
- your PERMITS file. Again, please refer to your uucico docs for
- more information.
-
-
- ┌ COMMAND LINE ────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
- └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
- Once you have properly configured uuLogin as directed above you
- will need to setup your mailer to accept calls and transfer the
- control to uuLogin. In FrontDoor and InterMail, this is done in
- ImSetup.Exe (or FdSetup.Exe). Under mailer, choose the external
- mailer definition and enter uucp as the string and set an error-
- level to drop out to your main batch file with. In your main
- batch file, define the errorlevel and a tag to jump to. For the
- the tag, put the following line:
-
- uuLogin #
-
- where # is the node number for your node that is executing the
- program. You can use environment variables here if you desire.
-
- Batch file example:
-
- :loop
- c:
- cd\im
- im
- if errorlevel 99 goto uulogin
-
- :uuLogin
- c:
- cd\waffle
- uuLogin %TASK%
- goto loop
-
- Note: you must have each node's information entered in uuSetup
- prior to executing on a node. If all of your nodes are the same,
- you can just enter one nodes information and then exit uuSetup
- and copy the uul##.cfg file (where ## is the node number) to the
- nodes you wish to establish. Then run uuSetup again and confirm
- that all of the information is correct for each node.
-
- You can run uuLogin alone on the command line for a listing of
- the available options. To get version and registration info, you
- can run:
- uuLogin version
-
-
- Statistics for remote systems can be seen in uuSetup in both the
- remote system setup windows and and the statistics menu option.
- The statistics menu option will show you summary stats for all
- of the configured remote systems. Pressing F2 at the window for
- remote system setup will display your remote systems that are
- configured along with their login name, sysop and the account
- expiration dates.
-
- Both the node setup and remote system setup windows allow you to
- press F2 to get a popup picklist of previously configured nodes
- and remote systems. You can use your arrow keys there to choose
- the node or system you wish to view or edit.
-
- Your remote systems will setup their uucico script to send the
- string you defined in your mailer (uucp was suggested). And then
- the balance of their script will proceed with the login. Below
- is the script used that is used for systems connecting to our
- support system:
-
- "" \r\c Esc uucp ogin:--ogin: login_name word:--word: passwd
-
- Of course, you'd have them replace login_name and passwd in the
- above with the information you configured for them in uuSetup.
-
